Hospice is…

The term “hospice” is derived from the medieval word meaning a place of shelter for travelers on difficult journeys. Today, this term is used to describe programs that are designed to control and relieve the suffering of the terminally ill. Originating in Britain in the mid-60’s, the hospice concept has gained widespread acceptance in the United States in recent years.

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Hospice provides its services without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, creed, age, sex or handicap.

The goal of Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Hospice is that the patient will remain as active and independent as possible and die with dignity.

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Hospice has compassionately ensured that terminally ill people in Laramie County receive the care they need to live in comfort and to die with dignity for over twelve years. We are committed to providing the best care for people at the end of their lives and for their families during bereavement. Your contributions have continued to ensure the quality programs you have come to expect from Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Hospice.

Who is eligible for Hospice care?

Hospice support services are available to any person who:

• is diagnosed with a terminal illness with less than six months to live, and who has been informed the illness is terminal
• has a local attending physician who is willing to work with Hospice
• resides in Laramie County
• has a primary caregiver who is not part of the Hospice program

What will Hospice provide?

• care of the patient and family as the unit of care
• comprehensive range of health services, including physical, psychological, social and spiritual
• access to Hospice Team 24 hours a day, seven days a week
• Physician-directed interdisciplinary care
• qualify of life maintained at the fullest possible level

How is Hospice care provided?

Support care is provided in the home where patients can be surrounded by loved ones. The support care is provided by an interdisciplinary team under the direction of a physician and includes:

• Physician
• Nurse
• Social Worker
• Aide/Homemaker
• Clergy
• Pastoral Care Team Member
• Trained Volunteers
• Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists
• Dietitian
• Bereavement Team Member
